STUDIO BRIEF 3 PROJECT PROPOSAL: Production & Presentation of my Moving Pictures

I intend to produce ……
A sting which portrays George Orwell’s feelings towards the future which he predicted in 1984. I currently have multiple ideas which I intend to experiment with to see which gives me the best results for a 15 second animation. I am going to use the work from Studio Brief 2 to create the sting.

The work will be humorous in its approach by using simple imagery and movements. I want the viewer to remember the sting so I’m going to use approaches that could make people feel slightly uneasy but also funny.

The content will focus on (identify 3 specific themes, texts or concepts)
1.     “If you want a vision of the future, image a boot stamping on a human face forever.” - 1984
2.     The power that the party have in the dystopian future of 1984.
3.     Mind control.

I will be aiming to communicate (identify 3 specific messages, ideas, moods etc.)

1.     A humorous tone of voice with a darker undertone.
2.     Political meaning (some say that George Orwell’s 1984 is a good prediction of our current future).
3.     Representing death with the washing woman metaphor.
4.
To an audience of ….. (name 3 characteristics)

1.     Strong political views (left wing, socialist).
2.     Sense of humour that’s quite dry and sarcastic.
3.     Younger audience (20s) as I think they would understand my approach to Orwell a lot more clearly.

Storyboard Workshop with David Bunting

The workshop has allowed me to develop my skills in animation (which is something I’ve not considered as part of my practice). Listening to a professional’s advice and receiving feedback has motivated me to focus on the brief. As I’ve never worked with animation before this brief will be a challenge but I intend to push myself for the best results.
